Croissantgate

There was one croissant left. Now there isn't. Who did it?

Croissantgate is a deduction game: each morning, you read your colleagues' Post-its, place everyone on the floor plan and name who ate the last croissant. Two minutes, the same puzzle for everyone.

Your turn

A real little case, right now

Same rules and same moves as the app, on a pocket-sized plan: tap a portrait, their Post-its light up and the plan greys out what they rule out. Put everyone on a clear square, then accuse.

Golden rule: the culprit is the only colleague alone in the same room as the box.

    Today's office memo

The lobby shows the puzzle number, its difficulty and who's in this morning: 4 colleagues on a 5×5 plan, 5 on a 6×6 plan, and always the croissant box. The same memo for the whole floor.

Tap a portrait, the plan helps you read

Their Post-its light up and scroll into view, and the plan greys out the squares they rule out. Tap a Post-it: it outlines its zone on the plan. It reads the Post-its one at a time, it doesn't solve anything for you. You can turn the grey off in the settings.

Stuck? The coffee machine, in three steps

The “Hint” button opens in stages, and you stop whenever you like. Each stage counts as one hint in your result, and your streak still holds.

    1. Nudge : the Post-it, row or person to look at
    2. Explain it : the deduction, and the squares it rules out
    3. Show me the answer : one person's real spot, placed on the plan
The hint open at the “Deduction” level: an explanation above the plan and the “Show me the answer” button.

    Everyone is placed: accuse

“Accuse someone” only appears at that point. Your plan is checked at the same time. Management closes the case by email, and you can forward your result as text or as an image, without ever naming the culprit.

Memo no. 1

Four rules, not one more

  1. Each colleague has a row and a column all to themselves. So does the croissant box.
  2. You stand on the floor, a chair or a rug. Never on a desk, a pot plant or a cupboard.
  3. The Post-its say where everyone was, in the same words as the legend. “Next to” covers the 8 surrounding squares.
  4. Golden rule: the culprit is the only colleague alone in the same room as the box.

The rest of the day

The case is closed. The stack of mugs keeps growing.

Every puzzle closed on the day adds a mug to your streak. The day is checked against a signed time: moving your iPhone's clock forward gets you nowhere.

371 checked puzzles, each with exactly one solution. They all ship inside the app: you can play offline, and your streak waits for the signal to come back.

Also

  • A “stack in danger” alert late in the day, only if you turn it on and your streak is at stake
